February 2, 2020:

As depicted by Revv website, the G20 was the next logical step after releasing the D20 (clean and crunch) : the G20 is the nasty little brother of the D20. It is a high-gain amp that offers Revv’s Purple channel in a lunchbox format. And make no mistakes : this small device is packed with features !

In short, this G20 is a 2 channels amp equipped with 3x 12AX7 preamp tubes and 2x 6V6 power tubes, delivering 20 watts, switchable to 4 watts. Classical controls can be found on the front panel : a 3 bands EQ, a gain knob, a volume knob, an “aggression” switch, and a “wide” switch. The amp offers as well a buffered FX loop, a 4/8 ohms cab output and a headphones output jack (front panel). That’s already pretty cool for distorted tones amateurs !

But there’s more ! The G20 (and the D20) are real game changers as they directly embed a load-box and a guitar cabinet simulator. And it’s one of the best on the market : they are provided by Two-Notes Audio Engineering, a French company already famous for the quality of its hardware and cabinet impulse responses.

So with the G20 you will get the equivalent of a Two-Notes Torpedo live (or a Torpedo Captor plus a Torpedo Cab M) : a USB port is present on the back panel, allowing the Torpedo Remote software to connect and control the simulation parameters. G20 and D20 users will be able to access the large and high-quality virtual cabinet collections available from Two-Notes and buy the ones that suit their tastes. We can guess that the already available Revv cabinets from the Two-Notes store will be embedded within the default cabinets of the G20/D20.

Torpedo Remote (CAB M)

Besides the classical amp controls, additional inputs/outputs and controls are available : a 6 positions CAB selector on the front panel -very practical for a direct and quick switch of cab-, a DI output on the back panel -does it always embed the amp output with the Torpedo sim or can it output raw amp DI ?-, the USB port that we discussed earlier and a classical -but welcome!- Two-Notes Torpedo ground lift.

The supported IR length is 100 ms.

A pre/post selector is present on the front panel : it allows for routing the full amp signal to the Torpedo section (pre-amp plus power-amp) or the preamp-only signal. That’s a very good thing as this offers more flexibility in terms of tone : users will be able to use the power-amp sim from the embedded Torpedo and use for example the EL34, KT77 or 6L6 power-amp sims…. a pretty cool feature !

The load-box is enabled automatically when no speaker is connected.

Revv releases a feature packed high-gain amp with one of the best cab simulation available on the market. Home, studio or live : many rock and metal guitar players might be tempted !
