CAB and mics

The guitar cabinet used for this collection is the « UK-112 », made in China, rear-loaded with a V30 speaker (16 ohms).

And it provides a pretty massive low-end for a 112 cab : this collection features the very same speaker as the E-112 V30 Class-D one (IR page here : https://overdriven.fr/overdriven/index.php/ir-german-112-celestion-v30-classd-home-studio-edition-free-guitar-cab-impulse-responses-download/). The differences in tone are quite spectacular : the V30 tone here is thicker and way less aggressive, with a smoother feel in the highs, and a very nice and usable growl… 

Same speaker as the E112 collection one mentioned above, with the following differences between the two cabs : different volume, rear-load instead of front mount and the presence of a grill cloth. A/B test the collections by yourself to experiment the two very different tones.

The base tone for this collection sounds -to me- more rock and hard-rock than metal, but it can be used in many genres. The low-end is pretty impressive for such a small cab…. The mid-section is also more pronounced and more solid  when compared to the E-112 version (see picture below) : this collection gives a less scooped tone, with more body. And with a slightly less pronounced high section, it can go into fuzz territory quite easily if you crank your gain too much…. It should compliment aggressive and bright amps nicely, but can be used with other types of amps (a Dual Rectifier will also work well 🙂 ) . Probably very interesting for doom, sludge and for other heavy genres players…

E112 vs UK-112 with an SM57 cap-edge position : low and mids are more pronounced, up to approx. 1 KHz (see picture below)

• The preamp used is the “solid state preamp 1”.
• UK 112 cabinet, captured directly on the floor for more low-end
• Capture based on a Celestion® V30 16 ohms
• 4 dynamic mics, 2 ribbon mics, 111 IR files in WAV 44 kHz format
• 6 microphones :
  • DYN-57 : classic V30 / 57 tone, with smoother treble
  • DYN-75B : bright tone
  • DYN-US-6 : a 57 on steroids
  • DYN-US-8: quite scooped
  • RBN-DE-2 : room positions, very fun to use IMHO
  • RBN-CN-2 : lots of tone options, from dark, to balanced and relatively bright
• Recorded in home studio conditions
• Recorded with a class-D power amp, with flat settings
