Cab and Mics
The cab used is a Zilla® Fatboy (2*12) rear-loaded with two “Green back” (made in UK), 16 ohms, wired in parallel. This collection contains mainly the captures of one of the speakers (the “right” one). The Greenback has been declined by Celestion in multiple versions since its inception in the 60’s and the 70’s : the Greenback is that classic rock electric guitar tone with a lot of punch and very present mids. It will suit rock, blues and hard-rock players for sure, but metal guitar players and other genres should probably try them : less scooped, less open and less aggressive than more modern speakers (ie V30s), it can provide great tone, with a lot of articulation.
The cab used is a Zilla® Fatboy : it is a very good and balanced 2*12 custom cab, made to order by Zilla Cabs : check ZillaCabs website at https://www.zillacabs.com. The Fatboy is a 212 similar in size and volume to a Mesa Recto 212 or an Hesu 212.
These IRs are captured using a new CLASS D power amp, and are part of the ‘Gen3’ collections : the tone you get from these is more balanced than the one captured with the KT88 amp, with more lows, low-mids and mids. They sound louder than the KT88 ones : lower their volume by 0.7 to 1 db to match the level of the KT88. More balanced means also that they may sound more boxy compared to the KT88 ones, that are globally quite scooped : for metal tone, this time, you will probably have to start scooping your amp mids. Check this blog post for more explanations on Gen3 : https://overdriven.fr/overdriven/index.php/2021/07/18/overdriven-fr-free-irs-gen3-launch/

What microphone is DYN-US-6? I don’t see it in your notes anywhere?
2024-03-10 at 10:25
Hello Mark,
The DYN-US-6 is a dynamic mic that I keep secret at the moment 🙂 . It is one of my favorites to achieve very aggressive tone, though you better use P12+ positions to take advantage of it

Hi, i am new to IR stuffs. Could you help me?! I would like to have green back speaker and celestion alnico blue speaker. If i lood the IR is it going to be clean sound? Overdrive sound?
2024-07-26 at 21:34
Hello Marcos,
This collection is based on greenback speakers : these IRs will provide you with the base tone of the speaker and cabinet, as captured and colored by the different microphones used… By themselves they are not clean or overdriven : that will be the tone produced by your amp/pedals/amp sim that will produce the tone, and the IR will just be the last -important- item in the sound chain… You can have a look at my first two blog posts on IRs : they present the basics of IR and the sound chain …
Welcome to the IR world ! Hope you’ll have fun and hope this helps
David
