Cab and Mics
The cab used is a Zilla® Fatboy (2*12) rear-loaded with two Hesu® Demon, 8 ohms, wired in parallel. This collection contains captures of one of the two speakers (the “left” one ). The “left” speaker (-L in the filenames) has both more bass and more bite and provides a more scooped tone. The tone, while very close to the KT88 collection is different with the CLASS-D : these captures are more neutral, with more body in the 200 – 500 Hz area, a tad less at 100 Hz, but with more bass extension below 100 Hz (use a low-cut to avoid mud and regain clarity). The tone is more boxy compared to the KT88 but is probably easier to pair with different amps : you will probably have to lower your mids a little bit…. or not 🙂 . The Demon is made for rock and metal and these captures will work nicely with downtuned guitars.
The Zilla® Fatboy is a very good and balanced 2*12 custom cab, made to order by Zilla Cabs : check ZillaCabs website at https://www.zillacabs.com. The Fatboy is a 212 similar in size and volume to a Mesa Recto 212 or an Hesu 212.
- Check the IR positions explanation here (microphone placement) : https://overdriven.fr/overdriven/index.php/irdownloads/ and here : https://overdriven.fr/overdriven/index.php/2020/07/30/home-studio-upgrade-and-2nd-gen-irs/
- The preamp used is the “SSP1” (solid state preamp).
- Zilla Cabs ® Fatboy 212 cabinet read-loaded with two Hesu® Demon , 8 ohms
- 5 dynamic mics, 51 IR files in WAV 44 kHz format, 50 ms
- 5 microphones :
- DYN-GB-1 (dynamic mic with 4 voicings)
- DYN-57
- DYN-US-8 (EV RE-20)
- DYN-US-6
- RBN-906
- Recorded in home studio conditions
- Recorded with a CLASS D power amp section only
- -L suffix is Left speaker
- -LCUT : low-cut applied at capture time
The following picture represents the EQ differences between the same mic/position with the CLASS D IRs and the KT88 ones : more presence in the low mids for the class D, resulting in a less scooped tone.
These two screenshots illustrates also the differences (Thrasher 50 – Torpedo Reload – Nadir) :

I hope you’ll do it all at 24 bit
Thanks

Hello Turi
All IR captures are done with a 24 bits sound card, configured at 88,2 kHz. The free published files are downsampled versions at 44,1 kHz.
