These impulse response files (IRs) are free and as mentioned in the Terms of Use, no warranty of any kind is provided with these files (issues, sound problems, inability to use them, sound quality, damages of any kind…).

The riffs and partial song covers presented here as samples are used for illustration and educational purposes (using amps and IRs). These riffs and songs remain the property of their copyright owners.

CAB and mics

The guitar cabinet on which this collection is based on is a Mesa Recto 1×12 cabinet loaded with a Celestion®  V30 speaker, made in UK to Mesa specs. 

This small cabinet can produce solid rock and metal tones and the IRs from this collection come in 2 sets of microphones : 

  • standard microphones captures with EQ applied at capture time
  • modeled microphones captures, using an Universal Audio Sphere LX microphone

The overall tone is typical from a Mesa Recto cab and while it may miss a little bit the « thump » from its bigger 4×12’s cousin, I found the resulting tones to be very convincing…. : let me know your thoughts by posting comments on this page.

  • The preamp used is the “solid state preamp 2”
  • Capture based on an Mesa 1*12 Recto cabinet, loaded with a V30 speaker, made in UK to Mesa specs, 8 ohms
  • 4 dynamic mics + 1 preview directory with multiples microphones, 39 IR files in WAV format, downsampled to 44,1 kHz
  • Using updated publication format : 24 bits / 100 ms
  • 4 microphones :
    • DYN-57 : classical 57 tone
    • DYN-421 : 421 tone, slightly scooped, bring up your mids to take advantage of it
    • DYN-US-8 : inspired by a RE-20, quite dark by default, bring up your treble and presence to leverage the tone
    • DYN-CN-7 : a China made dynamic inspired by 57-type microphones, with a stronger low-end.
  • 1 preview directory : this directory features sample positions of additional mics available with the Sponsored Pack version available through BuyMeACoffee :
