CAB and mics

The guitar cabinet on which this collection is based on is a 2×12 Marshall™ 1936 vintage, rear-loaded with two Eminence™ P50E speakers (16 ohms). While the P50 is designed and recommended for front-loaded cabs, the resulting tone with this cab are very interesting and can be used for multiple genres, from clean to crunch to high-gain… Most of the IRs in this collection are captures of the « right » speaker, where the bass section is less pronounced than the « left » speaker, and provides an -overall- more balanced tone, with a relatively tight low-end. The SM-57 IRs are provided for both the right and left speakers, so you will have the possibility to check by yourself the different balances offered by the two speakers. Default IRs are based on the right speaker (no suffix in the filename) and IRs ending with “-L” are the ones captured on the left speaker.

• The preamp used is the “solid state preamp 2”
• Capture based on a Marshall™ 2*12 read-loaded cabinet, with two P50e speakers, 16 ohms
• 4 dynamic mics, 1 ribbon mic, 86 IR files in WAV format, downsampled to 44,1 kHz
• Using updated publication format : 24 bits / 100 ms
• 5 microphones :
  • DYN-57 : classic 57 tone, from left and right speakers
  • DYN-US-6  : 57 tone on steroid, very aggressive, with more mids
  • DYN-US-8 : based on a RE-20 microphone, provides a strong bass extension
  • DYN-421 : 421 tone, that pairs very nicely with this speaker/cab combo (“CUT-1” and “CUT-2” are 421 filters engaged).
  • RBN-CN-1 : classic dark ribbon tone, quite beefy with different distances and different levels of clarity (“-LC” : low-cut filter engaged at capture time)

Samples

The samples below are recorded with Logic ProX with the same small sample riff, using a Strandberg Boden 8 bridge pickup in single coil. Helix Native Carillon amp, IRs loaded in Pulse 2.
