Soundcheck
Updated : May 2, 2020
Welcome to the sound check page…. This page contains various samples or demos/small covers that may or may not be linked to blog entries. It contains tests and “soundchecks” : it is about gear, amps, guitars, speakers, settings, IRs and distorted tone ! The riffs may not be very elaborated -sorry for this- but this page is just like an idea and tone box. Hope it will give you tone ideas !
The riffs and partial song covers presented here as samples are used for illustration and educational purposes (using amps and IRs). These riffs and songs remain the property of their copyright owners.
Harley Benton SC Custom VB – SH6
Just after a pickup swap, for testing : from a DActivator which was too dark in this guitar to a Seymour Duncan SH6 (which remains quite dark).

Seymour Duncan AHB3
These pickups are meant for drop tuning. A few samples for gear association…
Sample German 112 G12K100 M160 – Thrasher 50
Random chug and chord, Drop A. AHB3 straight into Randall Thrasher 50, boost on. One sample with OD_E112_G12K100_M160_P09 and another with OD_E112_G12K100_M160_P10. HPF 89 Hz, 360+1dB, 800+3dB. Sounds massive for a 112 CAB, but a more aggressive HPF or an overdrive would allow for a “clearer” tone.
Same amp settings, added an OD808X :
Wampler Triple Wreck
Sorting out my gear, I found back my Triple Wreck and decided to give a try with recent IRs and with a standalone setup (not using a computer). I ended playing (on monitors and headphones) thru the following chain : EMG81 – Sentry – OD9 – Wampler Triple Wreck (brutal mode) – Torpedo CAB M – OD-FB-G12K100-E906-P09-45 – some light EQ settings on the torpedo – Torpedo Reverb (Hall) very light – and the EL34 simulation on the CAB M. Sounded quite good, but I decided to run the output thru a tube preamp , and it started to sound nice….
