It seems that the V-Type is one of the most overlooked and underrated Celestion guitar speaker. A few vendors use it in their cabs (Marshall Studio Vintage SV212, A few samples using the V-Type IRs : <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marshall Studio Classic SC212, Laney GS112V, …) and not that many videos or demos are available, at least for the metal guitar genre\u2026 Is it because it is too cheap and affordable (64 Euros on Reverb, 98 Euros new) ? Is it because it is too light ? Anyway, searching internet forums you will find that it DOES have some fans, that they prefer it over the Vintage 30 or that they may mix it with G12T75’s (I haven’t tried) or mix them with a Celestion A-Type (I will try this combo soon). My first impressions when mounting it in my favorite front-loaded 112 cab were not that good : interesting but too harsh and not precise enough, as I had the feeling that the sound was breaking-up way too soon\u2026 Actually, I revisited my amp settings and found a very interesting speaker : raise the bass, keep the mids quite high (11 to noon), lower the treble\/presence and adjust the gain down, here you go : a nice and different sound for metal rhythms and leads. By the way, I fell into the same mistakes when testing the first IRs I captured with the V-Type, something was wrong and I revisited my settings again to adjust to the V-Type IRs tone. Some users on forums describe it as a speaker half-way between the V30 and a Creamback or a Greenback (the celestionplus website makes also mention of this). The high medium peak of the V30 was removed from this \u00ab\u00a0Vintage-modern\u00a0\u00bb speaker and the treble area is interesting : it can provide a nice gritty\/edgy sound, especially with condenser mics. I do not have any Marshall amps, but it seems that it can pair well with their voicing.
With this free IR collection, I am initiating a new home-studio setup and I am using the German E112 V-Type as a test run for KT88 based IRs and new -secret- microphones \ud83d\ude42 I hope you will enjoy these new IRs. Give a try to the ‘DYN-GB-1’ mic, it is one of my favourites for distorded tone with these IRs, providing IMHO a very powerful tone.
